  1. Happy New Year to our ONE VOICE Team!

Last year we joined together to begin to bring ONE VOICE to the next level - and, it was a great start!  Due to the participation of our Executive Board, Defenders, Organization Members and Members, and thanks to the donations and funds provided to ONE VOICE, we made some significant strides.

And now we FORGE AHEAD together for 2012 as we continue to lead the way as DEFENDERS OF OUR HERITAGE!

For the past 20 years, under the leadership and inspiration of our Founder and Chairman, Manny Alfano, ONE VOICE has amassed an impressive record in defending against the unrelenting attack on our great Italian heritage and culture.  But, UNFORTUNATELY, the stereotyping and denigration continues.  So, we must join together and proclaim - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Rest assured that your support and involvement is appreciated and NECESSARY.  We can not do this alone.  The combined efforts of everyone making calls, sending emails and standing firm - speaking as ONE VOICE - is needed to counter continued attacks on our heritage.

So, it is ONWARD AND UPWARD as we continue elevating ONE VOICE to a new level for 2012 and beyond!  We look forward to your continued support and help!

    Sincerely,

    Andre' DiMino
    President

  1. Is there something wrong with Gov. Christie?
The Governor's comments are not funny. They are counter-productive and they are extremely anti-Italian and doesn’t help New Jersey’s image!

Readers: Gov. Chris Christie sends wrong message with 'Jersey-style' comment

Christie’s "Jersey-style"

Is Gov. Chris Christie setting a good example for New Jersey students?

He recently said to Iowa voters, "If you don’t do what you’re supposed to do for Mitt Romney on Tuesday, I will be back, Jersey-style, people. I will be back."

He also said, "I hope they have taken me seriously because I will come back here plenty angry if they don’t do the right thing on Tuesday night. So they don’t want that. They’ve seen that. It’s not good." ("Christie goes all Jersey in Iowa," Dec. 31)

If a student on a playground spoke in this manner, it would be viewed as a threat and the student could be expelled.

Most New Jerseyans are hardworking and law-abiding. And yet we have a governor who degrades our citizens by using a negative stereotype.

Gov. Christie, come back to New Jersey and represent the people who have elected you. Do it with the dignity that we deserve.

Jean Jaeger, Cedar Grove

Wrong impression

Let me ask you, Gov. Christie, what does "Jersey-style" mean? I’ve been a New Jerseyan all my life and have had the opportunity to live and work with many fine Jerseyans.

So to me Jersey-style means planting a garden, home-made cookies, family Thanksgivings, dinner in the kitchen, Scouting, working two jobs to pay for the kids’ college, religion, working and attending state college, remembering when our major cities had class and dignity, hiking, shoveling snow, paying taxes, a beer at the local pub, the Shore and some good politicians.

So, that’s what you were going to share with the citizens of Iowa if they don’t do what you expect? That’s weird.

Why go out to Iowa? Just invite them to visit and experience "Jersey-style"? That might create jobs.

The governor’s behavior is detrimental to the well-being and image of New Jersey. How sad.

Edward T. Bobinski, Bloomfield

  1. Congress: Honor Italy with a Resolution for the 150th anniversary of its birth.

ONE VOICE  is asking on behalf of Joe Grano that all our members and organization contact the members of the Italian American Delegation to Congress regarding two issues that should be of major interest to the Italian American community and Italophiles:
1) The lack of a congressional resolution honoring Italy on its 150th anniversary as a country, and
2) The lack of a ceremony in the Rotunda this year to present the Congressional Gold Medal to Constantino Brumidi, as required by law..

Is Mr. Grano incorrect in writing that he believes that Italian Americans have little or no clout in the Speaker’s Office?
Would he be incorrect in writing that the Congress of the United States is remiss in not honoring Italy this year?

One Voice is asking that:
1. You call Speaker Boehner’s Office at 202-224-0600 and say that his actions are unfair, and to schedule a ceremony for Brumidi, this year.
2. You should call your Members of Congress and ask them to introduce a resolution now recognizing the 150th anniversary of Italian unity. (The Capitol Switchboard number is 202.224.3121).
3. You should also call your national Italian American organization’s headquarters (NIAF, OSIA, UNICO) and tell them to get behind these two issues.

YOU SHOULD ALSO ASK THEM TO SUPPORT & CO-SPONSOR H. RES 367 MAKING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER ITALIAN & ITALIAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
